NaturalKote

Swing and Shed

NaturalKote™ V2 ENAMEL is a high solids acrylic/urethane blend. It is an updated version of the full urethane NaturalKote™ HD Enamel but offered at a more economical price with comparable performance. Both products are solvent free and low odor that has much less yellowing than many polyurethanes. It has excellent scuff and mar resistance, as well as very good water and chemical resistance. It gives a very nice smooth finish that is very easy to clean. These products find utility in the shed and furniture industry on primed siding, wood, metal, fiberglass, and PVC and anywhere a high build finish is desired.

Brown House

NaturalKote™ Original and Elite Stain are waterborne soy based alkyd emulsions durable enough to withstand exterior applications such as outdoor furniture, gazebos, pergolas, log cabins, fences, decks, and the shed industry. The Elite formulation is thicker and provides a heavier build. They both feature low odor, fast tack free drying, scratch and mar resistance. Their superior flow and penetrating technology allows them to be sprayed with little or no back brushing. These products work well or porous substrates such as wood. For a stain for non-porous substrates, refer to the Vision product line.

Application Instructions for HD and V2 Enamel:

Temperature
The ideal room and product temperature is between 60- 80 degrees. Warmer room air temperatures may cause the coating to dry too quickly at the edges of the spray fan causing a dusty over spray. Cooler temperatures will slow drying times. The Heavy Duty Enamel temperature should be similar to the room temperature for best results. Substrate temperature should be consistent with the room and coating temperature. The siding must be dry and free of dirt or dust. Consistent temperatures of the spray room, coating and substrate are important for the proper application of NaturalKote Heavy Duty Enamel.

Equipment
Spray equipment must be maintained and working properly for best results. We recommend using a 415 or 417 tip. Equipment recommendations are general and can vary with the personal preferences and requirements of each person doing the application. We recommend that those doing the application experiment with different tips and find what works best for your situation and circumstances.

Application
Stir/Mix thoroughly before using. For semi-transparent look apply one coat on pre-primed surfaces. For solid look apply two coats. We recommend two coats on previously unpainted surfaces. Allow the first coat to dry before applying a second coat. We recommend priming bare metal with a rust inhibiting primer then apply two coats of Heavy Duty Enamel. Begin by making sure your sprayer pressure is correct. Spray a test panel and lower the sprayer pressure until there are fluid streaks at the outside edge of the spray fan. Gradually increase the pressure until the streaks go away. Make a note of the pressure for future reference.

Different sprayers may require different pressures so be sure to test a new or different sprayer before spraying a barn.

Apply the first coat with even, up and down strokes holding the spray fan in the center of each groove in the siding. Fan width and coating volume may vary a little depending on your tip and equipment but with the recommended tip sizes there should be very little difference. Wait until the first coat has dried enough to be just a little tacky and apply the second coat. Apply the second coat a little heavier than the first by going a little bit slower.

Ventilation
Ventilation of the spray room is critical for timely drying of the Heavy Duty Enamel. The spraying process of this waterborne coating creates moisture in the air that needs to be ventilated out of the room for quicker drying. Air movement needs to be through and out of the spray room, not just around the spray room. The best way to do this is to have a fresh air intake of some kind, even if it’s a window or door, and exhaust fans at the other end of the room blowing air to the outside. The more moisture you move out of the spray room with ventilation the quicker the coating will dry. The less air you move through the longer it will take to dry. Humid and colder air will slow drying times.

Application Instructions for Original and Elite Stain:

Equipment
Spray equipment must be maintained and working properly for best results. We recommend using a 210 Fine Finish tip, for furniture, or for sheds we recommend a 511 or 513 tip. Regular switch tips will leave slightly larger droplet particles which will take a little longer to dry . Equipment recommendations are general and can vary with the personal preferences and requirements of each person doing the application. We recommend that those doing the application experiment with different tips and find what works best for your situation and circumstances.

Application
When staining smooth planed wood surfaces, light sanding is recommended to open the wood pores, which results in better penetration and more uniform color overall. Apply one good coat putting on enough so that the wood gets all that it can soak up. Take care to avoid puddling. Recommended to topcoat with 1-2 coats Elite Clear Stain for outdoor applications. When staining rough sawn wood surfaces, two good coats are recommended. Back brushing to achieve maximum penetration. Begin by making sure your sprayer pressure is correct. Spray a test panel and lower the sprayer pressure until there are fluid streaks at the outside edge of the spray fan. Gradually increase the pressure until the streaks go away. Make a note of the pressure for future reference.

Fan width and coating volume may vary a little depending on your tip and equipment but with the recommended tip sizes there should be very little difference.
